For output voltages between 5.0 V and 3.4 V, this device is unlike any other LDO where it maintains a fixed dropout voltage VDO of 600 mV (typical) between VLDO_IN and VLDO_OUT across load and temperature conditions by means of the active bridge control when AC supply is used to power the device. For VLDO_OUT output voltages less than 3.4 V, the dropout voltage is 4 V - VLDO_OUT
When a DC supply is used to power the device directly on SCIN pin, (only for 3.3 V devices and below), the device can no longer maintains the fixed 600 mV (typical) headroom between VLDO_IN and VLDO_OUT across load and temperature conditions since the active bridge and clamp circuit will be bypassed completely , thus the device dropout is depended on the DC input applied on SCIN pin and the load current IR drop across the switching capacitor voltage reduction circuit. DC supply on SCIN pin can be increased to counter react this IR drop but applied DC voltage shall not exceed the max VSCIN specified in the Recommended Operating Conditions table while using a DC supply.
